Howdy! My name is Zoe. I recently received an acceptance letter from AmeriCorps stating that I'll be serving in Sacramento beginning September 21st. Woo woo!

I'm in Asheville, NC right now. If anyone has been here, had friends from here, pets, turtles, or any family from here, you know that this city is all about action, self-sustainability meetings held in warehouses, Full Moon Gatherings, artists, fresh poets and lots and lots o' kinetic energy.
Though I'll be super busy with helping my community through AmeriCorps, I'm pretty sure they'll give us time to chill and have a great time in and around the city. So I'm trying to find the different areas in Sacramento where I can not only have a good time, but learn and contribute, Asheville-style.

So what's up in Sacramento? Is there poetry slams to go to? GBLT groups and activites? Burning Man freaks? Environmental/political underground guerilla artists who hold awareness parties with "recommended contributions that go to a good cause"? Anything and anyone committed to and geared towards promoting self-expression, community-building, love-inspirations, Earth-and-self-awareness, etc.

I'm excited to explore and share this brand new place. I've never been this far west, and I've always wanted to explore San Fran.
Its about an 1.5 hour ride to San Fran- are there generally a lot of people who make that drive fairly regularly?

I can research bus routes and schedules/museums/libraries/cool sites/club stuff on my own, but if you have any input on those things, please share it! What areas of the city would I want to avoid as far as how dangerous they are (for a small, Aquarian, trusting little girl like me).

Peas and love,
.z.o.e.

This community was created as an alternative to sacramento and strives to be less like a classifieds section and more like a forum for meeting new people, making adventures and having fun. Want to post information about an upcoming event? Meet new friends or activity partners? Start a club? Complain about the crazy drunk drivers in midtown on Saturday nights? Tell a story or post a picture of something funny you saw? Do it here!

10:12 pm - What IS it, MAN?!

I watched some construction of this thing a while ago. I took this picture about a week ago and just now got around to uploading it. It's on the water tower(I think that's what it is) behind Safeway on Alhambra.

What is it supposed to be a picture of? The water system in Sacramento?

After I took the shot from my post on June 3rd, my camera's battery was drained. I waited for it to charge up and then went back out to shoot some more.

My day at work has been a bit frustrating, so I decided I'd leave the office during my lunch break and shoot some pictures. Nature had other plans.

What started with two snapshots has turned into a series of photographs that everyone seems to really like. People occupying themselves while waiting for their train at the Watt/Manlove Light Rail Station. I call the whole thing "Occupation."
